Family-owned and operated, Cleveland Bass Movers and Storage was launched at the Naples Depot in 1969 when a local interior designer by the name of William Warren Roberts needed help facilitating moves for several of his clients. He gave our grandfather, Mr. Cleveland Bass, five-hundred dollars to buy a truck and some moving carts, and instructed him to start moving the boxes and bags belonging to the people who were coming into town by train.
Cleveland Bass was the very first moving company to come to Naples. During the 1970’s, a large moving company tried to run Cleveland Bass out of town, but the county commissioner stepped in and told the large moving company to stand down and let the local businesses thrive!
To make ends meet, Cleveland also worked at Kelly’s Fish House part-time bringing fish up off the incoming boats until the moving company got off the ground. Cleveland also believed in making deals the old fashioned way – by handshake.
